We Look Up by Rachel Ross

ARTIST NOTES: Look Up. The children showed us with painted chalk rainbows and messages of love, that when we look down and feel lost there is still love. That when the playgrounds, schools and offices closed, we remembered that climbing trees felt like grasping joy with our fingertips. That walking barefoot on Kaurna land, and dipping our toes into Karrawirra Pari feels like a lovers kiss under a summer sunset. We learnt to lie down in the grass, making daisy chains to shift our thoughts to hopeful spaces. Putting one foot in front of the other is an act of bravery sometimes, and taking a run along this river is medicine. We learnt to purposefully connect; check on our neighbours, support small business, lend an ear, and the every day superpower found in a hug and a smile. We look up and let hope rise with every bright sky painted over us. We speak with words filled with sunset warmth. We know that we can keep looking for the goodness of every day, even with an unknown tomorrow. We look up. We are connected. We are resilient. We are West Torrens.
